Reiki cannot just be explained in words. Language has a limited dimensionality whereas Reiki is multi-dimensional. It must be experienced to be understood. The Reiki you are learning today was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century, but the concept of Reiki and the laying on of hands goes much farther back into the history of humankind. Reiki symbols are tools that help us connect to and increase the flow of Ki. This energy has been known by different names throughout time by many different cultures. Ki- Japanese, Qi-Chinese, Prana-Hindu, Pneuma- Ancient Greece, Mana-Hawaiian, Ruah-Hebrew, and more. Interestingly enough I have recently found that the word Qi (Chi) originally was translated as electricity, and then later replaced with life-force energy. According to Eileen Mckusick, “The building blocks of your electrical body are your cells, which were designed to generate and conduct electricity. There is an optimum range of voltage across your cell membranes…digestion is actually a process of electrical fermentation.” Reiki will increase your awareness of and expand your bandwidth and capacity to channel in and bring in more Ki. The primary symbols of traditional Reiki are the Cho Ku Rei-The Power Symbol, Sei He Ki- The Mental and Emotional Symbol, and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen-The Distance Healing Symbol. These symbols which are given to the Reiki student are essentially impressed in the mind and aura (biofield) of the student with the metaphysical energies that it symbolizes. These symbols serve as a bridge, as we all have an infinite source of the divine within ourselves, and the Reiki attunements will strengthen one’s ability in this connection. Reiki cannot fail. Success and failure are measurements of a limited dimension, and Reiki is multi-dimensional. The energy will always go where it is needed. You can add Reiki to any of your modalities of work and it will take it to the next level. When incorporating Reiki, your practice will become more healing to your client and yourself. It is a wonderful tool to use in our daily lives when we remember to use it. It is a great help for parents, when calming a child from an upset or a bad dream, an injury or an illness. It is instant and always with you.
